And while there are many ways to get the word out on your services, those efforts wont be as successful as youd like if you arent clear on who you help in the right way. Let me tell you a fascinating story on the power of communicating who. Recently, a friend of mine whom I play tennis with was recently laid off from a comfortable network-administrator job in a prominent oil company, earning about 100K. This event occurred at a particularly bad time because he had three daughters in middle school all aspiring to go to college. He had been looking for a new job for months but was unable to land one. He said the market is tough because there are younger people who can do his job for much less. He was also worried about what to do, and was afraid he wasnt going to be to pay the bills. As he gave me the details, I thought, Wow. Hes pretty frustrated with his job search. And then a light went off in my head Ding! I know a career coach who helps job seekers who are frustrated with their search! A perfect match. But heres the crazy thing: I would not have made this connection if my career-coach friend didnt repeatedly tell me that he works with job seekers who are frustrated with their search. He told me this on the phone. He told me this via emails. He told me this on his website. He told me this in his newsletters. In essence, he had engraved in my mind that he works with frustrated job seekers. And when it came time for me to identify a frustrated job seeker, I did so unconsciously. And heres the even crazier thing: When I told my tennis buddy, Hey, a good friend of mine helps people who are frustrated with their job search, his eyes lit up like fireworks on the Fourth of July and he instantly demanded the coachs name and number. People know their problems intimately; they can feel the pain caused by their problems. They like to talk about their problems with others, and their radars are constantly scanning for ways to solve them. The clear message of who that my career-coach friend puts out did its job well. It got me to identify my tennis buddy as a good referral, and it got my frustrated job-seeking tennis buddy to contact my career-coach friend for help. The bottom line? When it comes to your marketing material, including your website, make sure you identify who you are looking to work with along with the problems they face. On your website particularly, you have room to go into greater detail about who you work with. Give more specifics on demographics (age, sex, profession); more specifics on psychographics (beliefs, values, thinking); and, of utmost importance, more detail about the problems they face. The key is to get crystal clear on who, by identifying your target audience as well as the problems and concerns theyre dealing with. Not only will this help you grab attention as you spread the word about your coaching services, it will result in your ultimate goal getting more clients. Avoid Infidelity and Affairs - Create a Safe, Faithful and Trusting Relationship

By Glenn Cohen Why do people have affairs? No one has all of the answers to this question but one thing is certain, affairs cause massive pain, destroy relationships and break apart families. There are many different reasons people say they have affairs, though none are justified. The loss of trust, respect, and admiration, in addition to the emotional trauma it creates can be devastating for the people involved and the relationship. In my experience with coaching couples, there seem to be two major reasons why people choose to have affairs. Note that I use the word choose, as it is a persons conscious choice to break their commitment to their partner and engage in an affair. The person committing the act of infidelity has no excuses, is not a victim, and must accept absolute personal responsibility for all of their words, behaviors, and decisions. Lets face it, some people for whatever reason are not considerate individuals. They think of themselves first with little or no regard for the consequences of their words, behaviors, and decisions on the ones they love. We all have our own special names for these kinds of people; I will be gracious and say they belong with the rotten apples in the barrel bunch. The second reason, and the one I will focus one, lies with the relationship space. This is the space both partners create that breeds the conditions for affairs to happen. Allow me to state again, I do not condone infidelity and it is my belief that affairs are never justified. This explanation is not an excuse for people to use to rationalize or justify the choices they make. My contention is that while couples do create the environment for infidelity to occur, the choice to engage in an affair is a poor solution to a relationship problem. The question remains, how can partners create a relationship space that is resistant to affairs? To begin, people must understand that in order to keep their home standing, they must first build a solid foundation. The foundation is reflected in feeling Safe, Loved, and Cared For (SLC). In order to achieve the feelings of SLC people must follow three steps to understand, learn, and speak each others SLC Language. Everyone has their own unique dictionary for the meaning of SLC. Each persons dictionary is comprised of the words, actions and behaviors they need to see, hear and feel in order to know they are safe, loved, and card for. If a person does not feel SLC in a relationship, their perspective of their partner and the relationship overall will undoubtedly be negative. Negative perspectives lead to feelings of disconnection, apathy, and loneliness in the relationship. As time goes on, the feelings of disappointment, frustration, defensiveness, resentment, contempt and anger are injected into the relationship space. These couples will eventually find themselves destroying the foundation of their relationship while mired in the Cycle of Conflict. In order to prevent the negative spiral that leads to affairs and infidelity, couples must follow the three steps to speak each others SLC Language thus ensuring a rock solid foundation to build a relationship filled with safety, friendship, trust, respect, admiration, joy, passion, and love. Step 1 - Write your definition for each of the following. If you are uncertain what your definition is, how do you expect your partner to speak your language? What does each word mean to you? How to do need to see it, hear it, feel it, touch it, experience it? Write a minimum of three words, actions, and behaviors that help you to feel each of the following Safe
Loved
Card for Step 2 - Once you complete your list, share it with your partner. Remember, your partner is not a mind reader. If people desire their partner to speak their SLC language fluently and often, they must teach it in a manner that helps their partner feel safe enough to learn it. Take this opportunity to be patient and gently coach your partner in the finer points of your language of SLC. Bo concise and explain each definition in detail
Make sure to write down all of your partners definitions to review.
Read the list of your partners SLC language once a day for 10 days Step 3 After you share your SLC language with your partner, commit to learning, memorizing and speaking each others language every day. Have fun exploring and sharing new words, actions, and behaviors in your partners dictionary. Commit to your partner that you will speak their SLC language everyday
Speak your partners language unselfishly and unconditionally, regardless of what your partner does or does not do.
Each time you speak your partners SLC language,. you are creating the environment where your relationship will be free of the fear of infidelity. The choice is yours ! You can accept personal responsibility to work together and co-create an emotionally intelligent relationship where you both feel Safe, Loved, and Cared. for, or you can allow the seeds of disappointment, frustration, defensiveness, resentment, contempt, and anger to take hold and potentially lead to infidelity and affairs. Attracting New Business on a Shoestring Budget

By Kelley Robertson In a recent marketing workshop I attended, I discovered that most business owners rely on just two or three strategies to attract new business. Even well-established companies tend to rely on one or two strategies. However, there is a multitude of ways to drive new business to your door. Here are a few: Networking. Perhaps the most commonly used approach by small business owners. However, it is often poorly executed. Many people attend a networking function and take the wrong approach by trying to meet as many people as they can. They bounce from person to person, handing out business cards like it is an Olympic event and they are vying for the gold medal. They fail to realize that the most effective way to network is to cultivate relationships and give referrals to other members first. Referrals. This marketing strategy places a close second in preferred methods of generating new business leads. The key here is to develop a systematic approach to ensure that you take proactive approach instead than a passive one. Rather than assuming that satisfied client will refer someone to you, ask for that referral. Tell people who your ideal client is and ask for their help in finding these types of clients. The real estate agent who represented the seller when we bought our house, sends us a card every year and reminds us that she loves referrals. It is not pushy, does not sound like shes begging, and Im confident it helps generate new leads. Writing. This often under-utilized strategy is an excellent way to become recognized as an industry expert. Every industry has trade magazines and most are hungry for good content. The Internet is also filled with websites and e-zines looking for material to send to their subscribers and customers. I now write at least one article every month and send it to more than two hundred publications. This strategy alone has helped drive more traffic to my website more than anything else. It is sometimes challenging to come up with ideas and to write an 800 word article but the investment of time and effort is definitely worth it. Newsletters. This is another powerful technique to keep your name in front of your customers and prospects. Provide key insight into business challenges and offer solutions to them. In other words, help your prospects and customers solve problems. Some newsletters are nothing more than advertising so be sure to provide valuable information to your customer. Although it is less expensive to send a newsletter electronically you can issue it in paper format. A local real estate agent regularly sends out a one-page update of the housing market in our neighborhood. Cold calling. Without a doubt, this is usually the most challenging way to market a business - I know very few people who actually enjoy cold calling. However, it can be a good way to uncover qualified prospects in a relatively short period of time. Be sure to start your conversation with a good opening to capture the other persons attention. Give free information. At the marketing workshop I attended, the facilitator suggested to give information to interested prospects. I have used this approach on my website and have quadrupled the number of subscribers to my newsletter in the last year. You do not need to give away ALL the information relevant to your product or service. Instead, offer information that will help your target market with their problems. For example, when people sign up to my e-zine, they receive a report that outlines 100 tips they can use to increase their sales. Offer a guarantee. A concern many people have when changing suppliers is the risk associated with the change. They may not be completely satisfied with their existing supplier but the risk of choosing a supplier who may be worse can prevent them from changing. Eliminate this concern and offer a guarantee. Advertising. This can be a great strategy if you know how to create a good ad. The best marketers know that great sales copy is what makes the difference; I have experienced this first-hand. When I began selling my book on my website, I generated mediocre results for the first two years. I eventually changed the copy on my site and sales have soared every since. Glance through the ads in your trade magazine and you will quickly notice that most ads focus on the companys product features instead of on the customers problem. Create a great ad by concentrating on the problem you can solve. There are many other ways to market your business and generate new business leads. However, the ideas I mentioned in this article are effective low- or no-cost options.
