By Mary Anne Winslow It goes without saying that in every institution of higher education in which an admissions
process in utilized, that institution must face the realization if
race should be one of the determining factors in the admissions
process; as a result of the rising issue of merit verses preferential
treatment to certain races. When considering a person admission worth
merit, community service, and especially race should be observed. It
is not just that race should be considered per person but as a quota
in the school as a whole. In many places in the United States there
are schools where people of color are very few or nonexistent. This is
due to the imbalances found in life style circumstances between people
of color and those whom are not. One of the first arguments that one might consider is that people of
color are more so often then whites to be found the lowest states of
poverty in America. And though it is true that black in America have
been improving in a great way the last thirty years it is still not
enough knowing where they have come from. The high poverty is also the
gateway that leads to other problems that even more so hinder people
of color in our communities. Such as, living in and under poor
conditions, being in crime and drug ridden situation with nowhere
turn. This in it self in more so the reason why the race issue should
be pushed in the college admissions situation. In circumstances when one may reside in ghastly neighborhoods this
would most likely give that person access to the states more
underprivileged public schools in the area. And due to the fact school
vouches are not available the children have little to know choice
about what school they school they attend. Since of course the state
does not what to provide assistance to the schools in trouble because
they harbor criminals and report low test scores. Yet the score won't
improve unless they have better teacher. But worn and dangerous
schools don't recruit nor attract the best teachers, they just want
teachers period. With the combinations of under trained teachers and
poor facilities ridden with lost children one could imagine it
difficult for even the most focused student to learn. If one does not
learn or measure up to that SAT or ACT the student has virtually no
chance of getting into a good college; especially not one that might
be recognized or considered as prestigious in the white control world.
Being a product of ones environment happens only to different extents
and people of color prove this everyday. Though allowing a quota system would be a positive decision to make
for races of color in today's societies. It would also be the most
powerful thing that the United States could do for it's self to help
stimulate a positive growth in economy and society. By this it is
meant that in the years to come more the one third of the country will
be populated by people of color. It is also true that this same group
of people are the ones in which commit most of the crimes and fill our
jails. Now knowing that people that are education are less likely to
commit crimes and are more likely to have jobs; then why wouldn't the
government want to invest in the education of their people in hopes of
lowering crime and imprisonment rates, all around up-lifting people of
color. This theory makes a great deal of sense in the interest of the
country and its people whom live in it. It would be for the greater
good of us all. As a whole in society people of color have been brutalized, vilified,
and ostracized making any path that one may choose to take a more so
difficult one. With all this it is easy to see that a student of color
has a great struggle ahead of them. Yet in still there are people in
this world how wish to make it even harder for them. In a country
where we all supposedly live in equality many students of color are
denied there fair chance at an education that could be used to uplift
themselves and their people. Yet they are ridiculed and told over and
over that they have to help themselves and they need a leader; but how
can they do all these things with out a fair chance at a decent
education. It is not possible. People of cooler do not want to keep
qualified or under qualified whites out of school they only wish to be
there themselves so that they may now have the same chance that white
America has had all along a chance to up-life them selves and there
people in hopes of helping society as a whole for all races and all
nationalities. Mary Anne Winslow is a member of Essay Writing Service counselling department team and a dissertation writing consultant. Contact her to get free counselling on custom essay writing.
