Why Men Go Home Alone From The Bars and Club

By Teddy Shabba Most men when they get to the club are maximizer's they are seeking and only willing to accept the best women that the club has to offer. However, by the end of the night these same men have now become satisficer's willing to accept any woman who will have sex with him within his reason. Sadly you end up settling for something that is even less than what you wanted, which usually means your hand and your imagination. Yet, if you took the satisficer route from the beginning you would end up more often than not getting exactly what you wanted in the first place. The problem is most guys go to the club with dual goals Goal 1- Meet and hook up with a beautiful women Goal 2- Get Laid Come around midnight or very late in the night most men drop Goal 1 and begin looking for Goal 2. Problem is true Satisficer's have already taken most of the available women home already or have them on the dance floor or corner somewhere. Leaving you with essentially nothing! Once you realize, that at the beginning of the night you need to decide if you are going to be a maximizer, in which case you need to understand that there is a high likelihood you are going home alone. If on the other hand you decide to be a Satisficer you have a great chance of getting exactly what you want even if it means putting Goal 1 aside for the time being. It should also be noted that most True maximizer's already have a woman at home or someone they can call and see if their goal changes from finding the perfect woman to just getting laid. Those who have found joy and accomplishment in do-it-yourself projects soon find that something has to give. For many, that means the hiring out of household duties that used to be accomplished over a weekend including the services of a lawn care professional. For those of use who inhabit suburbia, our lawns are part status symbol, part responsibility to the neighborhood. A beautiful, thriving lawn at one house raises the value of the whole street a fact not lost on any homeowner. And so, we work all hours and spend significant money in an effort to maintain an envied lawn. Money Saving Auto Financing Tips

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Evert_DuToit]Evert DuToit So you have decided you are ready to take the plunge and buy that car youve been dreaming about! Whether your dream car is new or used, there are some questions you need to ask yourself about the financing of your new wheels. And obviously you need to answer those questions very honestly in order to save yourself from trouble down the road. Questions like: - Do I really have room in my budget to take on car payments? - Do I have the cash for a down payment? - How much can I really afford? - How long will it take to pay of the car loan? - Did I take the hidden costs of car ownership into consideration? Things like insurance, fuel and maintenance add a significant expense to owning a car for the first time, or it may increase when you purchase a replacement vehicle. Buying a car is likely to be the biggest expense you take on other than buying a house. Few people can afford to buy a car outright in cash. Typically youll make a 10% - 20% down payment and have the rest of the price financed. Car dealerships are only too happy to provide you with that financing as they often make more profit from the interest you pay on your car loan than they do on the sale price of the car. And that interest can make out a very large portion of the total amount youll pay over the lifetime of a car loan. When you are looking for auto financing, there are much better options than dealer financing. It will be worth your time to research your options, compare interest rates and terms offered by different lending institutions and make sure you know about any hidden costs, like loan application fees. You will almost certainly be better of getting a loan from a credit union or even a bank, than making use of dealer financing. There are also several independent financing companies that can hook you up. Being a member of a credit union has very definite advantages. Credit unions typically charge lower interest rates than traditional banks, and the application process is usually simplified because they already know you. You could get approval within hours of submitting your loan application. Once you have your financing in place, you can go to the dealership and start negotiating the price of the car you want. Having a guaranteed car loan in place before you talk to the dealer gives you a very strong bargaining chip, since you can easily move on to another dealer to secure a lower price for the car you want. The most important thing to remember is to do all your research before you start talking to the dealership. Find out prices for the car you want, invoice and sticker price, so youll have the knowledge to bargain with the dealership. Research and compare financing options in terms of interest rates and terms, and secure financing before talking to the dealership. Personal Development and Dating: Introduction to Masculinity

By Albert Foong Masculinity in Personal Development and Dating Are you man enough? Most men are boys in mens bodies. Harsh, but true, especially in this day and age. If youre a man, your personal development path will require you to man up sooner or later. If youre a woman, read on itll help you identify the character of the man you are with or will next meet. There is more to being a man then most people know. Being a man is hard work sometimes. I once read that a man consists of both velvet and steel. You cant have one without the other. Most men nowadays have too much velvet, and not enough steel; that is, they are too soft without the hardness. They become wimps, who go through life governed by fear fear of women, fear of their boss, fear of hard work, fear of growth and change. Others have too much steel. These become the bad boys, the loud, overbearing types. Some might argue that this breed is better then the wimp. However, I believe that deep down inside they also revolve around insecurity and fear, although of a different type. I went through an arsehole phase in my life. I didnt like it I had simply changed what I was afraid of. Men in relationships Most people know the bad boys fare much better in relationships, despite (and sometimes, because of) the danger - many these bad boys are self-destructive and abusive to others, including their partners, friends and family. This is because they display traits that are similar to those displayed by confident and sexually attractive men. I believe there is a subtle difference. A bad boy speaks loudly because his ego is afraid that no-one will notice him. Please tell me I exist. A confident man speaks just loud enough for the occasion. In my experience most young women cant tell the difference and so fall for the bad boys anyway. Its a biological thing just like when men go for gorgeous women despite knowing that she is a gold-digger or likely to cheat on them. I know because Im guilty of this. Gentlemen A gentle Man Back to steel and velvet. I believe most men have too much of one without the other; some dont think it is possible to have both. Or they mistake strength and power for beating on their chest and roaring like a pirate. Having passion, determination, and strength does not mean that you cannot be gentle, compassionate, and understanding. Being strong does not mean beating on your chest and shouting out orders. But all great men do. This is the true meaning behind the word gentleman. A gentle man. A man who is not afraid of life nor his desires. A man who has the strength to protect his loved ones, and fight for what he believes in. Yet a man who can laugh, grieve, nurture and heal. A man who appreciates the beauty in a childs smile, in the sunset, in a womans love. This is the introduction to the masculinity section on the Urban Monk website. Much of the section can apply to women too, but dont quote me on it. Or women can read this to gain insight into the enemy. Whats next? The first step is to head on down to the Urban Monk website, and find the piece on Life, passion and goals. It is one of the vital components of being a man. Youre on your way to mastery! -----

Phentermine - The Watchword for Weight Watchers

By Chris Read In today's time, we want it all, and we want it quick, and when most of our professions require us to sell an image, having just the right weight becomes an increasingly important concern. The answer sometimes is as tiny as a pill, an appetite suppressant, known as Phentermine. Known the world over for its relatively quick and effective results, Phentermine is a quite a rage in the weight loss market, and for multiple reasons. It is a derivative of Amphetamine and thus proves to be an appetite suppressant. It works in close collaboration with Neurotransmitters in the brain. It helps counter the hunger signal sent out by the Neurotransmitters and thus cutting down on the appetite. It must be remembered though, that it proves to be more of a solution for those for whom weight loss is a medical issue, rather than a desired cosmetic change. Like almost all pharmaceuticals and drugs, Phentermine comes with a host of side effects too, some of the minor ones being dry mouth, unpleasant taste, diarrhea, constipation and vomiting. It is also imperative to remember that there are certain contraindications that need to be considered before you embark on a dosage. Some of these are: Agitation Allergy/ Hypersensitivity to other sympathomimetic amines, Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease, Glaucoma, High blood pressure, Hyperthyroidism or a History of drug abuse. On the other hand, though, there are enough testimonials all over the internet to strengthen the belief in this pill. So if you have no time on your hands, and the extra pounds are harming you in more ways than you can imagine, buy cheap Phentermine at a host of online pharmacies, always ensuring to check for the FDA approval. Chris Read is an associate editor to the website http://www.hateweight.com It is committed to provide visitors with complete information on weight loss, diet pills, obesity and phentermine. Restaurant Fast Food - It's Not Like Grandma Used to Make

By Abbie Frank The growth of restaurant fast food cannot be denied. It seems that fast food places are opening up almost on every corner. It's not unusual to see a McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye's Chicken, Del Taco, a Burger King and several others all within a block or two of each other. This explosion of fast, fried foods, oversized to meet the growth of people is one of the suspected causes of the overweight phenomenon that's in all the newspapers. The "super size" or up sizing of fried french fries and drinks is not due to consumer demands but a desire for more profit. The rise of the value menu has lowered the overall profit margins for basic foods at most national fast food restaurants. Managements answer has been to offer a larger product for a "special" price. Although this seems like a good value, from a business standpoint, it adds tremendously to the bottom line. Unfortunately for the consumer, it also adds to their bottom line as well. This strategy works well on 2 fronts for the business. First, consumers think they're getting a better deal at restaurants that offer to super size their order. This in turn drives the customer decision to do to one store instead of another. So the decision is more based on how much food instead of how healthy the food. The second reason for this strategy is pure profit motive. Let's say that you typically order a 20 ounce cup of soda. The basic cost of this drink is 1 penny per ounce. That 1 cent per ounce covers the total cost of the drink. That's electricity to run the machine, the cup, straw, cover, drink product, and ice. That's right, that 20 ounce beverage costs the restaurant 20 cents and they charge you .79 cents. So as long as they can offer a larger drink at more than 1 cent per ounce, they're making more money. So raising your drink from a 20 ounce to a 32 ounce cup for only 25 cents more, gives the restaurant an added 13 cents profit from that larger cup. Remember 1 penny per ounce is costs, so the difference between 32 and 20 is 12 ounces which is 12 pennies and they charge 25 cents for the upsize! Wouldn't you like to make a 50% profit on any of your investments? Now don't get all bothered by the huge amounts of money food companies make on drinks. Overall, after the costs of the building, the employees, taxes, product, utilities, etc, the actual net profit from a well run typical franchise fast food place is under 10%. 10% for the investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars is not considered exorbitant by means. Consider that the proprietor could have that investment in a solid mutual fund making at least or a little more without the risk of running a business or dealing with the customer and employee problems that come with any customer service type business. I think we all would probably prefer however, that their pricing model be more geared toward healthy foods and less toward manipulation of the consumer Abigail Franks writes on a variety of subjects. These subjects include Home, Family, and Health to name a few. Visit the site at http://www.restaurantfood.tsonline.org for more information on Fast Food restaurants and food. Attract Beautiful, Sexy Women and Date Them Using The Easiest and Most Effective Seduction Secrets

By Kenneth Oboh When you meet a woman, you should NEVER, EVER, try to
impress her by boasting about what job you do, how much
money you have or any other material thing to "prove" to her
that you are "a good catch." You see, psychologists have found that in any interaction
between two or more people, the person that is trying to
impress the other will be seen (perceived) as having LOWER
social value and therefore less attractive. In a sense, it's
almost as if the person is "selling themselves" a little bit
too hard. And what is your reaction when you come across a
salesman desperate to sell you something? You would put a
barrier up to avoid the sale. If I met you and we got chatting and you started to tell me
all about your great job or your fantastic car, and all I
was doing was quietly listening to you talking and bragging
about all your "achievements," you know what will happen
after a while? You would strangely begin to NEED to tell me
more and more things that make you look good to live up to
your image that you have built up in my mind. So if you've
been telling me how great your car is, you would feel the
need to order the most expensive drinks if we went out for a
few beers. Because if you don't you'd be thinking that I'm
wondering how you can afford a great car but buying cheap
drinks. You'd feel the need to constantly live up to the
image you presented to me from the start of your boasting. If you feel the need to impress a woman with any of your
achievements, like your job, or money, or travelling
experience, there is a way to do it whereby you avoid the
trap of qualifying yourself and having lower value and
therefore coming across as an unattractive guy. That way is
through story telling. What you simply do is this: you take
that car or that job, or that trip to the most exciting
parts of Europe and you wrap it up in the form of a story,
ideally involving other people like your friends. So instead of saying something like "I work for the biggest
firm of investment bankers" or "I drive a silver Porsche
boxter," you say something like this instead "you know, I
bumped into an old friend yesterday at work, it's been ages
since I saw him last. He used to work for Barclays Bank as a
regional manager, and he used to tell me that he'll never
work for Goldman Sachs, because they're too hard on their
staff. I can't believe we're going to be working together
again. We were kind of best friends years ago in our first
job. It really is a very small world." You see, you would
have told her what you do for a living, where you work and
roughly what position you hold in your company, all without
saying it directly in a self qualifying kind of way. You can tell absolutely ANY story from your previous life
experiences which you want to highlight to the woman. You
will get your message across the right way and attract women
in the process. Would You Like a "FREE SEDUCTION eBOOK" filled with Hundreds Of Secrets To Attract & Seduce Any Woman

Your Oven: Kitchen Ally or Public Enemy Number One?

By Skip Lombardi As Thanksgiving approaches, newspapers, mega-stores, and food producers have recently begun their annual advertising assault to get your turkey dollars. Yet I suspect that huge numbers of people are living in dread and anxiety because they're uncertain about how their turkeys will turn out. Some will produce turkeys that are a long way from being fully cooked, while others will produce overcooked, tough birds in need of resuscitation. Has this been a problem for you? Do you follow a recipe to the letter, dutifully preheating the oven, timing the recipe precisely, only to have your dish come out nearly raw, or burned beyond recognition? I suggest that for an investment of approximately $5.00, you can improve your chances for cooking well-roasted foods by 90%. Another investment of approximately $10.00 will bring your chances to near perfection. And when I use the term investment, I mean that your $5.00 will pay you dividends in the form of well-roasted food for the indefinite future. I'm talking about thermometers; specifically, oven thermometers. If your oven is more than ten years old, the cooking temperature could vary-in the worst case-by as much as fifty degrees from the temperature you've set on the dial. So if a recipe tells you to cook a roast of beef at 375 F., you could be cooking at anywhere from 325 F to 425 F. and have no way of knowing, until you discover that when you remove your dish from the oven, what you've cooked is overcooked, undercooked, or somewhere in between. But not well cooked. For approximately the price of a meal for one at McDonald's, you can feel assured that your oven is set at the temperature you're seeking, even if you've had to set the dial at 350 F. in order to arrive at a temperature of 375 F. The typical recipe that calls for, say, cooking something for fifteen minutes per pound, was very likely tested in an oven calibrated to cook at the expected temperature, or an oven fitted with an inexpensive oven thermometer. Oven thermometers are readily available at the local chain hardware store, or in the kitchen gadget aisle at the local mega-store. The two most popular types, are coil (or dial) thermometers, and liquid, in which a colored liquid-usually alcohol-expands in glass as it heats, and registers the temperature on a scale. In both cases, the thermometers will have a kind of hook at the top that will enable you to hang them from one of the racks in the oven. When you've bought your thermometer, it's a good idea to put it into boiling water for about five minutes, to see that it registers somewhere close to 212 F. If not, it may have some mechanism for adjustment, or you can simply return it to the store for another. To test your oven's thermostat, hang the thermometer from the middle shelf, and pre-heat the oven to 350 F. If your thermometer reads 350 F. you're home free. But if the thermometer is, say, ten or twenty degrees off one way or another, try the experiment again, setting the oven to 375 F. If the temperature is off by the same factor, then you'll know to set the thermostat with that factor taken into account when you want a particular temperature; 360 F. in order to get 375 F., e.g. Equipped now with an oven thermometer, and having calculated the necessary adjustment on your oven to produce the desired cooking temperature, I recommend an additional $10.00 investment in an instant-read meat thermometer. By inserting this type of thermometer into meats as they are cooking, it will provide you with-as the name suggests-an instant reading of the meat's internal temperature. This is an extremely useful device, because it helps you to account for the vagaries of cooking that go beyond simply knowing that your oven is set to the correct cooking temperature. Your standing rib roast of beef may look photogenic after two hours at 375 F., but until it reaches an internal temperature of 130 F. for medium-rare, it isn't fully cooked. Gaining the confidence that your oven is set to the correct temperature is not then, the full story. It may be the case that the rear of the oven is hotter than the front, for example. You may notice, as you continue to experiment, that your roast browns far more quickly in the back than in the front. This is where you need to begin to improvise. Very likely, it will simply be a matter of turning your roasting pan one hundred eighty degrees midway through cooking. It could also be the case that you'll need to cook foods on a lower rack of the oven. But knowing that you're cooking at the correct temperature is 90% of the battle. The sorts of problems I've mentioned will be obvious-as will their solutions. Finally-and this doesn't have to do with ovens, per se-is the issue of carry-over cooking. Nearly any recipe you read for roasted meat of any kind, will instruct you to let the meat rest for a period of time before carving. During this resting period, the meat will continue to cook in varying amounts. For example, a standing rib roast of beef will add about five to ten degrees to its internal temperature while resting for approximately twenty minutes. Therefore, it's a good idea to remove your dish from the oven at about five degrees shy of your target temperature. Again, this is a task that would be impossible without an instant-read meat thermometer. You could certainly buy more sophisticated timers for your roasting tasks. One popular model that retails for between $30.00 and $40.00 is digital, magnetic, so that it sticks to the oven door, and has a fireproof probe that can go into the meat roasting in your oven. And you can program it to beep when your meat has reached the desired internal temperature. Another, more expensive model, has a remote timer that you can carry up to seventy feet from the oven, and it too will beep to remind you that your meat is done. But you can get wonderful results with the least expensive models too. So make a small investment in your oven. It will repay you with huge dividends in confidence that your roast will be medium rare; that your chicken will have a wonderful crust, yet be moist and juicy; that your meat loaf will make you a legend in the kitchen. And when your friends and family gather around your holiday table, they will proclaim this year's turkey to be the best one ever. How The Right Work Chair Can Prevent Chronic Tension Headaches

By Paul Bacho If you suffer from chronic tension headaches, back pain or neck pain, you're probably aware that poor posture was at least partly responsible. However, did you know the way you sit may have had more to do with your pain than the way you stand? If you're like most Americans, you spend much of your day seated. That's because your work station is probably at a computer terminal, assembly line, or desk. Consider, too, that much of your time at home is also spent sitting - either watching T.V., surfing the Internet or reading. As a result, of the 16 hours or so you're awake, you may well spend 12 or more of them sitting down. Doesn't it make sense then, that you should concentrate as much on your sitting posture as you do your standing posture? And while standing properly - shoulders rolled back, head up, chest out - is important, the benefits of a good standing posture will be minimal if you slouch all day at your desk. You may be one of many unfortunate workers who are forced to slouch because your work chair won't adjust to accommodate your body, or because you don't have your chair adjusted properly. THE DANGERS OF IMPROPER SITTING Three things can happen when you habitually slouch for long periods every day. They're all bad: * stiffness and pain in your muscles, connective tissue and joints
* restricted breathing
* postural deformities STIFFNESS AND PAIN Problems related to inappropriate seating are cumulative. The first noticeable symptom is usually stiffness and pain in your low back, upper back or neck. These can lead to chronic tension headaches, back aches, and muscle spasms or a restriction of circulation in your legs. As a result of sitting slouched over all the time, other body segments begin to break down because when one part of the body is out of alignment, it'll have an effect on the structures above and below it. For example, if you habitually sit slumped over you're not only at risk for back and neck pain, but also for repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome. RESTRICTED BREATHING When you're sitting upright, you should have good tone in your lower abdominal muscles so your diaphragm is in its proper, raised position. This is important for optimal breathing. But when you slump in your seat, your lower abdominal muscles relax and your diaphragm lowers. This forces you to breath from the upper chest instead of from the diaphragm. As a result of decreased support from a relaxed lower abdominal wall, together with a lowering of your diaphragm, your abdominal organs are forced downward, which restricts your breathing. POSTURAL DEFORMITIES If you're a woman, the resulting pressure in your pelvis from slouching all day for prolonged periods of time can be an overlooked cause of back, pelvic and menstrual pain. And - particularly if you're a woman - you risk skeletal deformities if your poor seating posture is not corrected. Often, when people think of a "round-back" posture, they usually associate it with a post-menapausal woman who's already had osteoporosis. However, many pre-menopausal women have rounded backs that are caused by the way they sit all day. HOW TO DETERMINE IF YOU'RE SEATED PROPERLY Here's a checklist you can use that will help you determine if you're sitting properly: * your feet are firmly on the floor, or on a foot rest, slightly in front of you * your seat is adjusted so that your thighs are parallel to the floor, with your knees at about 90 degrees and slightly lower than your hips * your seat allows your weight to be borne primarily on the upper half of your thighs * your knees are shoulder width apart or closer * your chair seat isn't too deep (you shouldn't be sinking in your chair) * you're able to sit upright, maintaining the natural curves of your back * your back is adequately supported * your pelvis is neutral * your rib cage is elevated * you can draw a straight line down through your ear, shoulder, rib cage and pelvis (check this by sitting in front of a full-length mirror, or have a co-worker analyze your sitting posture) ERGONOMIC TIPS FOR COMPUTER USERS If you sit at a computer terminal all day, there are other factors you need to consider: * you should be sitting directly in front of your keyboard and computer screen * your monitor should be between 18 - 24 inches from your eyes, and you should have to look slightly down to see it * you should use a work surface that allows your elbows to maintain about a 90 degree angle * you should keep your shoulders relaxed; don't slump forward * you should relax your wrists and keep them in a neutral position; don't flex them up or down * while typing, keep your shoulders relaxed and your elbows loose at your side * take breaks When doing extensive computer work, it's important to take brief breaks to stretch and walk around every 30 minutes or so. Alternate between work activities that utilize different muscle groups. Make sure to give your eyes a periodic break, too. For example, blink frequently, close them momentarily and gaze at different objects. THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHAIRS CASTER WHEELS In most work environments, and in nearly all offices, chairs are mounted on caster wheels to allow you to move from task to task easily. These wheels are usually mounted on a five-point base. STATIONARY BASE In some industrial settings, a chair with a stationary base is more common because of safety issues. Such chairs are often found in laboratories because the floors tend to be hard and smooth, making caster wheel chairs risky. Stationary chairs are the norm in assembly lines because they're more stable. BENCH CHAIR Bench chairs are often used in small parts assembly areas in manufacturing, as well as for other jobs that require manual dexterity. Bench chairs are higher than typical office chairs and usually offer footrests for stability and comfort. SIT-TO-STAND CHAIRS Sit-to-stand chairs are best if you move from a seated to a standing position often during your shift (if you work as a receptionist or assembly line worker, a sit-to-stand chair would be a good choice). These chairs usually don't have a backrest. the seat is angled downward, allowing you to lean comfortably in a half-standing position. OTHER FACTORS THAT AFFECT ERGONOMICS BACKRESTS The backrest of your chair should stabilize your pelvis and elevate your rib cage by supporting your lower back. If it doesn't support your lower back properly, then it will sink into the backrest. A backrest that's too soft, inclined, and/or concave causes this to happen. These faults result in a backrest that supports the wrong areas, which reinforces slumping. FOOTRESTS If your work surface is too high to allow you to place your feet on the floor, then you need a footrest. The footrest should be large enough to allow you some movement during the day. It should also be adjustable to accommodate your height and leg length. FIVE-POINT BASE A five-point base offers you maximum stability and can usually be found with any type of chair. HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT WORK CHAIR FOR YOUR BODY TYPE When shopping for a work chair, you must realize that one size doesn't fit everyone. You must consider what you do at your chair all day, as well as take into account your physical size. Generally speaking, you want a chair that provides appropriate support to your back, legs, buttocks and arms. Here are the various components of a work chair and what to look for in them: THE BASE You want a chair that has a five-pedistal (point) base, regardless of whether you need casters (wheels). If you choose a chair with less than five pedestals, you're sacrificing stability and safety (chairs with four casters can tip over more easily). Make sure the base allows the chair to swivel easily. ARMRESTS Keep in mind that armrests should only be used while reading or resting between typing sessions, NOT while actually typing or using your mouse. Depending on how you spend your time in the chair, you might not even need armrests. If you do get a chair with armrests, make sure they're adjustable, broad, cushioned and comfortable. While seated, you should be able to independently adjust the height of the armrests and move them closer together or further apart. THE SEAT PAN The part of the chair that you sit in (the seat pan) should allow even weight distribution and comfortable support. Pay attention to the width and depth of the seat pan - it should be wide enough to give you at least one inch of unused space on both sides of your thighs and hips. It should also be deep enough to support your thighs comfortably and not put pressure behind your knees (that's bad for circulation). The seat pan should feel comfortable even after sitting for an hour or more. Insufficient cushioning and poor contouring can cause hip and back fatigue, so ensure that the padding is of high enough quality to resist becoming permanently deformed. CHAIR HEIGHT You should buy a chair that allows you to adjust its height easily. The best chairs have a device that permits you to adjust the height of the seat pan while you're seated (a chair with a spinning mechanical height adjustment mechanism is okay, too). Either way, make sure the adjusters are within easy reach while you're seated - you shouldn't have to get up to change the height of your chair. If more than one person will be using the chair, make sure the range of heights will accommodate all users. You should be able to adjust the height of the seat pan so that the fronts of your knees are level, or slightly below level, with your feet firmly on the ground or on a footrest. LUMBAR SUPPORT A good lumbar support (the part of the chair that supports your lower back) is essential. Many chairs have cushioned lumbar supports that can be adjusted up and down and forward or backward. That's what you want, as these supports will better fit your shape. The ability to adjust your chair is especially important if more than one person will use the chair. A fixed-height lumbar support might be okay if you're the only user of the chair and it feels comfortable when you sit back against it. When sitting against the lumbar support, make sure there's sufficient room for your hips and that you aren't being forced so far forward in the chair that you lose thigh support. BACK SUPPORT The back support should recline to allow you to sit back at more than 90 degrees. The best chairs allow your back to move and also track your back as you move back and forth. Try to avoid locking a back support in one position. Look for a support that's sufficiently broad and doesn't put pressure on the side of your back. The support should also be tall enough to provide good support to the middle of your back - at least up to your shoulder blades. HEADREST If you like to recline in your chair to read, talk on the phone or relax, look for a chair with a high back and good neck and head rest. PRICE Good chairs are coming down in price, but they can still be costly. You can get a good chair for between $300 and $500. (Remember this - you get what you pay for) While $300 to $500 (or more) may seem like a lot of money for a chair, if you're among the millions of people who spend most of their workdays sitting, a high-quality, comfortable chair is a wise investment. The Global Work Marketplace - The Revolution Of How Work Gets Done

By Lori Redfield Will cubicles be a distant memory for todays workforce? Will the expense of office space and the tremendous burden of employee benefits be a thing of the past for modern day businesses? The reality is, for thousands of people, this change has already occurred. Internet based 'Service Auctions' now abound where businesses can post their ongoing jobs or one-time projects to a global market of freelance professionals, a.k.a. - 'Service Providers'. The service providers then bid on the work, adorn the bid with their 'pitch' and online portfolio and voila! What commonly takes weeks to accomplish and thousands of dollars in payroll and advertising revenue... can take a business as little as a day with no overhead costs at all. Another advantage to this reverse auction model is the feedback system. Providers are rated by previous buyers who have used their service. Generally a buyer can review a providers resume, portfolio, job history, references AND their feedback reviews with a click of a mouse. It can be a challenge for new service providers to jump in on these job sites without any previous feedback to grace their bids with the coveted five star rating. But once that first project or two is under their belt, it is absolutely possible to make a successful freelance career via these types of job sites. Many freelancers have found their best long-term clients from these boards and only utilize the system for a short time. Others use them continually and some work with a team of professionals to juggle the work that they are awarded. There is no doubt that the Global Work Marketplace is here to stay and is every day expanding. It is a win-win for businesses and workers. Businesses get the advantage of a global array of workers to choose from. The benefit from harvesting the talent of workers in different states that often isn't available locally. There are tremendous savings from office space, benefits, and HR staff costs etcetera. Often times there are time zone advantages, particularly for internet based businesses that have online chats available to their customers and want those 'manned' 24 hours a day. Or software companies who want to provide technical support 24 hours a day. For the workers, the number one advantage is working from their home office. Eliminating costs of commuting, wardrobes, lunches, childcare services and more from their budgets is a terrific economic relief. The work arrangement often times has very flexible hours. And being your own boss is the best advantage of all. People working for themselves on their own terms, in their own homes tend to demand more of their work and deliverables. They hone skills for the sheer pleasure of building their portfolio of skill to potential clients and they tend to think of their client's businesses on a much more professional level. Because their work for the client reflects on their own business, not just the client's they work harder and with more care then the all too typical unhappy cubicle worker will. Get Money at Easier Terms at Cheap Secured Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_Baker]Andrew Baker Those who own property get loan easily but to get it at cheaper cost is different. Generally when a loan is taken against property the interest rate comes down. The borrower should not rest on mere lower interest rate but instead make efforts to reduce it further and also the overall cost of the loan should be brought down. Cheap secured loan is especially designed to serve borrowers looking for cheaper finance. They can utilize cheap secured loan for any purpose like renovation of home, buying vehicle, meeting expenses, medical or education bills. Cheap secured loan is available on placing any of borrowers property like home, valuable papers, jewelry as collateral with the loan providers. On the basis of collateral and equity in it the loan amount and interest on it is decided for the loan deal. In order to take cheap secured loan, first of all borrowers should check out the collateral. If the collateral has higher equity then lenders will readily agree to reduce interest rate. Though secured loans come at lower interest rate but higher equity enables in getting the loan at lower then average rate of interest. Another way to achieve cheaper interest rate is applying for the loan online, an effective modern medium. When you apply online you get flooded with loan offers from numerous lenders. This way you are able to choose the suitable loan package that has the lowest possible interest rate. Remember that there is cut throat competition in the loan market to take advantage of. Online lenders do not charge any fee on processing of application or providing related information which cuts the cost of the loan and you get cheap secured loan. If you boast of a good credit history then cheap secured loan is there for asking at your terms and conditions. Lenders are more secured in giving loan to such borrowers. Even if your credit score is not that good and you are labeled bad credit you are equally eligible for cheap secured loan as because of the collateral, lenders do not look much into the credit score or credit report of the borrower. Lenders provide cheap secured loan in the range of 3000 to 50000 which normally meets average borrowers requirements. The loan is given for repayment term of up to 30 years starting from 5 years. Hear also if the loan amount asked is kept below the equity in the collateral the interest rate may be reduced further for cheap secured loan. Cheap secured loan makes you financially healthier as after meeting requirements you are not left with any debt burden. On the basis of collateral, financial standing and vast choice of lenders you get the loan at your terms. The loan provides you perfect opportunity to enhance your finances. Covenant Relationsip With God - The Blessing

By Fred Fishburne God always has and always will have relationship and fellowship with man through covenants. When seeking the Lord's will for your life you must find out what the Bible has to say about His covenants. In a covenant relationship between two individuals, the weaker always has everything that the stronger possesses. A covenant is always established by blood and is forever, which means that future generations of the covenant makers automatically become a partaker of that covenant. Nothing can be added to it or nothing can be taken away from it. To keep the covenant active in future generations it must be taught to each family member. A covenant always has a blessing and a curse. The blessing is in effect as long as the covenant is not broken. Death is required if the covenant is broken. When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, God took animal skins and made coverings for Adam and Eve which was the first shedding of blood for sin. The Law of Moses required the priest to offer a blood sacrifice of an animal to cover for the sin of God's people. Jesus came and offered Himself on the cross for the sin of the world and was accepted by God as the final sacrifice for sin. A covenant always governed by laws. The tithe, which means to give a tenth of all, is always one of the laws of a covenant between God and man. A covenant always has a seal, (a sign) where the two parties swear to keep it. Some examples from the Bible of signs would be circumcision, a rainbow, the planting of a tree, the building of a alter and the sending of the Holy spirit to earth. When God blesses man He ALWAYS does it by saying the blessing. God's words are His creative power. The first blessing that He gave man is found in Genesis 1: 28. Note Genesis 1:27-28, So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish (fill) the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." So we see that God created man and gave him the earth as his possession. Psalm 115:16 states, "The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lords: but the earth hath he given to the children of men." When Adam sinned, a curse came upon the ground and on man, man lost eternal life and the ground would not produce abundantly. Genesis 3:17 states, "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast harkened unto the voice of thy wife, and has eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life." God told Adam in Genesis 2:15-17 that if he disobeyed Him he would surely die. As long as Adam ate only from the Tree of Life he could live forever.Generations later, we see Noah living in a cursed land where every thought in every man's heart was evil continually, to the point that it grieved God that He had created man on the earth. Sin brought on the flood that destroyed every living thing, save those in the ark. In Genesis 8: 17-22, we read that after the waters from the flood had subsided, God commanded Noah and his sons and all living creatures to go forth out of the ark and said unto them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. This is the same blessing that he spoke to Adam when he created him with the exception of two words: "subdue it". Now look what happened concerning the curse of the ground which came when Adam disobeyed God. Genesis 9:20, And Noah builted an alter unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the alter. Now notice what God said, Genesis 9:21, And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. The burnt offering of Noah could not change the evil hearts of men and get back eternal life but it did get the curse off the ground for ever. Generations later, God raised up a man by the name of Abraham and entered into a covenant with him that would remove the curse off of every man, knowing there was one coming later, a seed of Abraham, that would offer Himself a sacrifice for sin to remove the curse from man for ever, making eternal life once again available to all mankind as it was in the beginning. He would be known as the second Adam, Jesus Christ the Righteous. God would make a covenant between Himself and His Son that could not ever be broken. Romans 5:17-18 states, "For if by one man's offence (Adam) death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." In Genesis chapters twelve through twenty two we see God calling a man by the name of Abram (Abraham) and his wife into covenant relationship with Himself. These passages of scripture of some of the most important in the entire Bible to study in order to understand your covenant relationship with God. They are directly related to the writings of the Apostle Paul who wrote most of the new testament. Study his writings along with these scriptures in Genesis and the Bible will come alive right before your eyes. God bless the reading of His word. Fred Fishburne has been serving the Lord since 1980. Metabolism - 7 Success Strategies to Boost Metabolic Rate and Burn More Fat

By Claire Raikes Ever heard this statement, "Oh I cant lose weight, I have a slow metabolism."? Or "Shes so slim, she must have a fast metabolism."? When it comes to weight loss, the word metabolism comes up a lot, but few understand exactly what it is, how it works and how a thorough understanding of the metabolism can help us lose weight. Lets start, in lay-terms, with what the metabolism actually is Our metabolism (or metabolic rate) is the rate or speed at which the body burns, or "turns" food into energy (i.e. carbohydrate, fat or protein). It ALSO describes how the body uses fat or protein to make protein, necessary to maintain our lean tissue. Hormones control these intricate processes, particularly the part that determines how much lean muscle we make and most importantly keep! Confused? You neednt be just take on board that your metabolism is simply the efficiency at which your body can use food . Its efficiency can also be improved upon. So can we change the rate at which we burn food? Is it under our control? Well, the short and loud answer to that is YES! Sure, we are all different, but the key is to work WITH your metabolic rate, and not against it. By the time youve finished reading this article, youll know how to rev up, work with, and keep your metabolism gently ticking over in a higher gear. Keep the home fire burning! In YeartoSlim, our virtual weight loss program, we say: Think of your metabolic rate as a fire or flame. It may help to think of this deep in your belly! Ideally, you need that flame flickering gently all day. Now, if a fire is left unattended, and not refuelled, it will go out. Its the same with eating. Going for hours with no food means your metabolism (or flame) slows right down. When you do finally eat, not only do you run the risk of overeating because you are over hungry, but food is not used or burned as efficiently rather like trying to re-start a fire by putting coal on it, but with no flame! In the case of your body, more food or calories are likely to be stored as fat! So, the first thing to remember about revving up your metabolism is to aim to eat every 3 hours or so, and feed, feed, feed the metabolism! This way you will burn MORE energy (i.e. calories)than your body has been used to, and help you on your way to successful weight loss. Simple steps to a faster metabolism Lets look at the typical eating strategies from 2 different "sports"; a 'lean' athlete eats regularly to stay lean eg. 5 small balanced meals a day; he knows thats the best way to burn body fat. A Sumo wrestler on the other hand, eats one huge meal at the end of the day to PUT ON lots of fat. He knows his metabolic rate is at its slowest, and much of the excess he eats will be stored as fat. So do you want to look like a lean athlete or a sumo wrestler? Work with your body not against it. Follow our 7 Success Strategies to Boost your Metabolism and help you burn more body fat.
1. Think like a lean athlete not a sumo wrestler. 2. Aim to eat around every 3 hours or so. 3. Avoid LARGE meals full stop! 4. Always balance the amount of carbohydrate with protein in your meal aim for a 1:1 ratio. 5. Avoid carbohydrate-only meals to balance your blood sugar levels effectively. 6. Try exercising before breakfast and take your metabolism to a higher gear for the rest of the day. This could be a 20 minute walk, a home exercise circuit or a swim. 7. Find time in the week (preferably 3 regular slots) to do some resistance training that challenges individual muscles. Examples are weight training, circuit training, Pilates or using a body ball. You will build and keep lean "metabolically active" muscle tissue, helping you to burn more calories while you are sitting here reading this!

Filling Out an Online Car Loan Application - What You'll Need

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=L._Sampson]L. Sampson Filling out an online car loan application can save you a lot of time if you are prepared before you sit down. However, it can become very tedious if you have to get up after every couple of questions to retrieve necessary paperwork. Read this article, gather all of your documents, and begin the application prepared: Personal Information Obviously, youll need to provide the lender with your basic information: name, address, telephone number, social security number, email address, etc. Previous Addresses If youve lived at your current address for less than two years, you may need to provide your lender with previous addresses. Additionally, if you rent your home, your lender may request your landlords name and address. Employment Information Its a good idea to have your last months worth of paychecks in front of you as well as your income tax forms from the previous filing year. Online car loan applications will ask questions about your income. Youll need your employers name, address, phone number, and possibly their employer identification number. If youve been at your current job for less than two years, you may need to provide this information for previous employers. Co-Borrower Information If you are applying for a loan with a co-signer, youll need all of the above information for your co-borrower as well. Additional Information After youve filled out your online application, youll most likely have to provide your lender with additional information by fax or mail. Search Engines and Open Source, Primed to Take-Over Online Recruitment Game for Employers

By Joel Cheesman Not too long ago, job boards like Monster, CareerBuilder and HotJobs were primed to put newspapers out of business. Surprisingly, now it seems that search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo! are set to dethrone both newspapers and job sites.

As revenues and readership for newspapers have been on a consistent downward spiral since the birth of the Internet, their grip on classified advertising has been a major contributor.

Particularly job postings.

Since 1995, job sites have done an effective job of steadily taking dollars away from a once almighty print monopoly. As a result, online job classifieds were poised to take down print listing who could never compete with bargain basement price-points.

However, another revolution was quietly occuring that today is poised to put job sites on the defensive.

Search engines and Craigslist happened.

Craigslist is, for the most part, a free service for online classifeds. By allowing to post jobs for free in all but three of its local markets, Craigslist has quickly become a site of choice for local job seekers and employers alike. Even in markets where employers pay - New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco - prices remain well under $100 per listing.

Despite its low pricing scheme, Craigslist remains a very profitable business, generating millions of dollars with only 18 empoyees.

Search engines like Google, likewise, have discovered that providing free search content pays off as long as you provide targeted pay-per-click advertising.

In light of this model, vertical search for jobs is taking off. First, with players like FlipDog and GrassIsGreener, and now with players like SimplyHired and Indeed.com. Yahoo! - utilizing its HotJobs offering - is now aggregating job listings from all over the Net.

As a result, most experts predict Google will soon launch a similar offering that allows users to access job listings from a variety of sources, including job sites like Monster and corporate site listings.

Google will provide the content at no charge, while making money from its AdWords, pay-per-click model.

Both Craiglist and search engines paint a picture of commoditized job listings that eventually no company will have to pay big money to have accessed. Most likely, job postings will be driven to zero. Additionally, job seekers are primed to have a central point to access a large number of listings.

As a result, it seems that search engines (Google, Yahoo!) and low-priced open source solutions (Craigslist) hold the key to accessing job information in the future.

Where newspapers and job boards fit into this equation is anyone's guess. 2005 Cheesman Group, LLC - All Rights Reserved Joel Cheesman is a blogger (http://cheesman.typepad.com/seo) of online recruitment topics, speaker, agent of change and entrepreneur in the world of Internet recruitment advertising and employment.

Online Auto Refinancing

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Seth_Miller]Seth Miller Auto refinancing is an easy and risk-free method of lowering your auto payments. Applying online for auto loans is one of the simplest and fastest ways to lower your monthly expenditures. A large number of people opt for online auto refinancing because of the ease of use and quick availability. Nowadays, many lenders provide online services to their customers. Research has shown that most people seek online auto refinancing because of the convenience factor. Auto refinancing via the Internet is more convenient than refinancing in person or on the phone. Car owners with bad credit can also take advantage of auto refinancing. Online auto refinancing has become a great means to get approval for auto loans. Today, many owners are aware of the savings that can be earned by refinancing their auto loans via the Internet. Applicants do not have to pay obligation costs, application fees, closing costs, down payments, and pre-payment penalties to do this. Most online lenders provide services for consumers with bad credit, little credit, no credit, repossessions, slow credit, and bankruptcies. They also serve first-time buyers. It takes only a few minutes to fill in the online application form. Usually, auto refinancing websites ask for all information about the owner, vehicle, desired loan amount, and current interest rates. After completing an online application, you will get response from online lenders usually within hours. If your application is approved, the provider takes care of the refinancing process for you. Many online auto refinancing companies provide calculators that help you determine your savings. Also, these sites publish recent rates for vehicle loans. Most websites providing services in auto refinancing help you save money throughout the life of your vehicle loan. Marijuana Should Remain Illegal

By Matt Christensen The debate to legalize marijuana has gone on for some time. Today I will add my two cents to the debate. There are several reasons to consider the legalization of marijuana. People will argue that it's better for you than tobacco, and cigarettes are legal. It has legitimate health uses for certain people. If it were legal it would reduce drug related crime such as drug deals going wrong. My two cents to add to those arguments is taxes. It's a huge business, if it were legal it could be taxed. Also it could be taxed heavily. It would probably take a big chunk out of the deficit. With those benefits, why should it not be legalized? There are several reasons it should remain illegal. It's still a drug and effects health and judgment. Marijuana is a gateway drug and leads to other harder drugs and criminal activity. Remaining illegal will help prevent the harder drugs from being used as well. My two cents on remain illegal is the fact that it does kill brain cells. The United States is starting to lag behind in education. Generally other countries are becoming more intelligent. In this day and age it's all about information and technology. We need the country to be as intelligent as possible. Stopping marijuana use will help. In conclusion, I am in favor of marijuana continuing to be illegal despite the possible tax revenue that could be generated. Matt Christensen

Order Flowers Online

By Kevin Stith The most important aspect of wanting to send someone flowers from an online florist is the ordering. As a customer you first need to do your homework and find out which site is safe and uses up-to-date security measures to protect your privacy and credit card. Next, you must ensure that the online florist stocks what you like, has priced it reasonably, and offers guarantees on the product. Some sites are so confident about the flowers that they offer a 21-day guarantee. Check whether the site delivers to the place you want to send flowers to. Ensure that they will send the flowers so that it reaches the recipient on the day specified by you. Read through the sites terms and conditions. Weigh the pros and cons and go through their credentials and customer feedback. Check around and find out if there are any complaints registered against them. On your side, keep handy the name, address, and contact number of the recipient. Try and find out if someone will be there to receive the flowers. And keep your credit card ready. Look through the many options on the site and select the bouquet or arrangement you want sent. If you have any questions, ask customer service before placing the order. Be sure to specify any alternatives for example, if red roses are bad or unavailable, the florist can use yellow roses instead. Give the online florist an e-mail address or contact number where you can be reached in case any problems arise, or if they need clarifications on your order. Check inventory as well as shipping arrangements. Fill out the order form accurately. Click send and be sure the flowers, arrangement, potted plant, or basket will reach its destination. Chicago Personal Injury Lawyers

By Jason Gluckman You should contact a lawyer if you've recently suffered an injury due to someone elses negligence. Lawyers specializing in personal injury cases usually work only on a contingency basis, meaning that you only pay if you win the case. The costs of hiring a lawyer are not that high. If you are contemplating hiring a lawyer for your case, it would be prudent to do some research on the facts of your claim. List the questions you what to ask a lawyer and what kind of services should you expect from him or her. An experienced legal representative will be familiar with the specific facts that need to be taken into account for your specific argument. Your lawyer will guide you though the legal aspects of the case that you may not be able to comprehend. Similarly, he would provide aid when dealing with the insurance companies and health plans. The main reason to hire a lawyer is that they are able to negotiate the case better than you could yourself. This is particularly true when you are involved in a case that involves multiple states, since the personal injury laws differ from state to state. Take into account that you should only hire a lawyer with an extensive practicing in your region. A variety of personal injury lawyers can be found but you should make certain that he or she has experience managing cases similar to your personal incident. Finding a lawyer to argue your case who is experienced shouldn't be overwhelming. Bear in mind the specific statute of limitations set by your state and think about the fact that you need to get legal representation soon. Consider using the Internet to gather all the information you need about a lawyer. Leave It All to Have It All

By Esther Smith The US is in the middle of a serious workforce change. Home-based businesses are now recognized as a viable source of new jobs. If it continues as expected, the new American workplace will be located in the spare bedroom or converted garage. Its no surprise then, that the home business movement of 2005 has received more attention from the recession-that-isnt-a-recession downturn. Todays laid off workers are not the blue-collar workers in manufacturing jobs; those have long since been shifted to China. Today, prized engineers and corporate Vice Presidents of such-and-such have been sent to the bone yard. Of course today we dont lay off our employees, we down-size; it seems to be a kinder verb. However you look at it, Joe Citizen is fed up and he isnt going to take it anymore. Most are leaving their private offices with an accrued vacation and sick leave pay, and a hefty 401k account. Prime targets for the online Marketer!! Its my guess when they empty their desks and fill a cardboard box with their personal items, it will be the last time they labor someone elses dream. That if any good is to come of this disaster; it will be the sweet revenge of self-employment. Often turning points in ones life are marked with discovery and challenge. The path we thought was the right one, changes at the crossroads and you suddenly step into new territory with a new determination filling your very soul as another door closes behind you. You dont have to be a prized engineer to begin your Internet search for your new home-business. There are five points I used when making mine, and I dont mind sharing them with my readers. 1) Credentials find a business listed in the BBB, DSA, or Dun & Bradstreet. Make your requirements one that has been in business for over 10 years. 2) Product a company with a product that people want and need. Set your mark at about 55 million people who would benefit from this product. 3) Compensation if it isnt jaw-dropping, why bother? The secret here is in the residual income look for the biggies; theyre out there! 4) Training together with support and a system to follow; this sets you up for a long term work from home career. 5) Concept Im for high priced sales items and no telemarketing. No cold calls and no splitting my earnings with others. Independent Distributor would be an example, with a simple formula that can be duplicated over and over. Not all people morphing to home businesses are prized engineers or ex-VIPs of big corporations. They include everyday workers tired of alarm clocks, traffic jams, and psychotic bosses. A bar manager sick of Tuesdays off airline mechanics unwilling to take a 25% cut in pay ER interns on 24 hr shifts doctors taking down their shingles because of mal-practice insurance costs teachers looking at dismal long-term retirement estimates. They are leaving it all to have it all! Once dominated by the young, highly-driven, techie-oriented entrepreneurs, the home based business is quickly being taken over by those who happen to be in their 50s, 60s and 70s. The graying of small business is one of the nine major trends of 2005. By accident or design, people tend to retire earlier and paradoxically, they continue to work after retirement. Joining the great myths of history is the old-time belief: if we go to school, get a good education and a job with a solid company, we will be set for life. Today, the changing of social trends will allow a small home-based business the same reach and capabilities as their larger competitors. This is thanks to PCs, the Internet, increasing phone systems, fax machines and satellite systems. All you need to add is a desire to change and a willingness to work as you learn new skills. 2005 Esther Smith About the author: Smith publishes a syndicated Newsletter every Sunday, subscribe here: http://quikonnex.com/channel/page/esmith and is a member of the Profit Masters Team http://www.exec-lifestyle.biz Creating wealth is fun if there is no struggle attached to it. Solving The Utensil Puzzle

By Lydia Ramsey Many people know how to navigate place settings and know when to use each utensil. How to hold those knives, forks and spoons, where to put them when you are not using them and what to do with them at the end of the course or the meal may still be a challenge. Glancing around you while dining out and trying to get a clue from others may not solve the problem. A quick study of people eating out will reveal that there are almost as many ways to hold a knife or fork as there people using them. The fork is held between the first knuckle of the third finger and the tip of the index finger with the thumb to steady the handle. This is much the same way that you would hold a pencil although observation will tell you that there are variations on that as well. The knife is held between your thumb and third finger with the index finger resting on the top of the blade. If this seems awfully basic, look around. You'll find people gripping the knife like a dagger and holding the fork like a miniature cello. There are two differing styles of eating: American and Continental. The difference between the two is primarily how you hold the knife and fork while taking food to your mouth and what you do with them while resting between bites. The American Style is the one most commonly used in this country and is often referred to as the zigzag method. When you are cutting your food, the fork is in the left hand with tines down and the handle between your thumb and third finger. Your index finger rests on the back of the handle. The knife is in your right hand at this point. Assuming that you are right-handed, when you are ready to take the food to your mouth, you put the knife down (on your plate, blade facing in) and switch the fork to your right hand. Tines go up as the food goes to your mouth. The Continental or European Style is less formal and actually seems more efficient. The knife and fork are held the same way as they are for the American Style when you cut food. The difference is that the fork is not moved to the right hand nor is it turned tines up when food is taken to the mouth. The knife can remain in your right hand while you chew. The knife then becomes more versatile. You can use it to move food onto the back of your fork (which is kept in the tines down position). However, it is still not permissible to wave it around or use it to punctuate your conversation. One more point to keep in mind when cutting your food; cut only one bite at a time. If you are thinking that your mother always cut up all your food at one time, that was because she wanted to be able to eat her dinner uninterrupted, not because it was good table manners.
