Shopping On The Internet-Don't Be Afraid

As a consumer myself, I am always looking for the best deals with privacy and security in mind. Being retired Air Force (20 years), budgeting was and still is important to my wife and me. Convenience of ordering products over the internet is also important to us. This saves us time rather than dealing with bricks and mortar visits to locate the products we want or need. It truly amazes me how some can feel fearful of ordering something on the internet. I have more fear giving my credit card to a waitress or waiter in a restaurant to pay for a meal. I understand that identity theft is and has been spotlighted very much over the last several years, but I am more worried about leaving a paper trail of my transactions. That's why I have a shredder at home. I shred every snail mail credit card offer and anything that has my name and personal info on it. There are some precautions you can take when ordering a product or service from the internet.... When ordering from an internet vendor, always make sure the url you are ordering from starts with "https" and not "http". The "S" in "https" means you are ordering from a secure site. Essentially, your personal info is scrambled and encrypted to complete the transaction. The page you order from should also display a little "lock icon" normally located at the top of the page near the url address, or it's common to see it at the bottom of the page as well. Savings, Convenience and Privacy are the three most important things to me when ordering on line. I think common sense also comes to mind when ordering through the internet too. If I feel there is something wrong with a website in any way, I simply won't order from it. There are plenty of other safe websites to make orders from. Whether it's medications, personal hygiene products, self-help publications, money making opportunities, etc. I want my privacy. I know I shouldn't really care about what other people think of me because of what I buy, but I do. Frankly, it's no elses business what I order or buy for my own wants or needs. I'm sure many others feel the same way as I do. So, the internet gives me that Privacy and it can for you too. I will conclude by saying if you have a fear of ordering something on line you are indeed missing out. Try to overcome your fear by taking that first step in ordering something inexpensive or something you need. In time, you will come to know and trust your gut feeling when ordering on the internet. I can make this short, but there is so much and I want to be fair. Stage one: friends. A friend decides our relationship needs to be advanced to a sexual/dating level. This was probably his objective when we first started hanging out, however, I could not picture us together. He was not my type, the age difference was huge (15 years), and I just couldn't see an "us." Stage two: friends plus. Imagine my surprise when I fell head over heels in love. He quickly and effortlessly became my favorite person in the whole world. Once we started sleeping together, well, he's the best I ever had, and he's said the same about me. Regardless, it's been a huge headache. He's got this nice little routine that works for him, and I never once worried about losing my independence because he was so dead set against losing his. It didn't take long to realize I adore this man, and we fit great together. The beginning of the end was saying this aloud to him. I know the rules: always hang up first, leave them wanting more, never give details, blah, blah, blah. But I made the decision to love him and that negated the Barbie and Ken mating ritual in my mind. Not in his. The chase was the most exciting part to him. Stage three: stage fright. By George Parker Are you planning a marketing survey in the near future and you are unsure how to get the best results? Here are ten time-tested tips that will dramatically improve your survey results: Clearly define the surveys purpose. Usually surveys are conducted to gain information that will help make better decisions. What decisions do you hope to make using the survey results? What other goals will be met by conducting the survey? If your survey is used to collect information to assist you in your marketing efforts, clearly identify your marketing goals. Also, have specific plans for how you will use the data once it is collected. Use surveys that are brief and highly focused. Use your test audience to make sure that they properly interpret your questions and that they complete the survey in the desired time. Consider your audience when sending out survey invitations. Your Own Outdoor Fire Pit
By Daniel Roshard Literally adding warmth to your backyard setting, an outdoor fire pit makes a great visual and entertaining feature to your home. On the market, there are many different traditional units to choose from, some with price tags in the $10,000 range. Don’t worry about the cost, you may choose to build your own fire pit, which can be accomplished in two different ways. You could purchase a do-it-yourself fire pit kit or you can make your own fire pit by buying the necessary supplies separately. Before you build your own fire pit, you need to make sure it is OK that you make your fire pit based on the laws regarding creating structures like this on your property. Once you have the green light to make your fire pit on your residence grounds, the next part is gathering up the necessary supplies. In order to build your own fire pit, you will need to comparison shop and price tools and materials, such as bricks, trowels, cement and shovels. Built Your Own Fire Pit Directions When you wish to make a fire pit in your background, there are several ways to accomplish this task. Below you will find one set of step-by-step instructions to approaching this fun and exciting do-it-yourself home improvement project. 1. Identify where you would like to make your fire pit and insert a wooden rod into the center of this location. To the rod, attach a 10 1/2 –inch string with a can of spray paint at the end. While holding the string tight, spray-paint a circle. Next, connect a 22 1/2-inch string to the same spray can and draw another circle. Using these guidelines, dig a trench that measures 10 inches deep and 12 inches wide. 2. Next, place 2 inches of gravel about the trench to create a lining. Tamp the gravel, making it firm to the touch. The gravel will then be covered with concrete that reaches ground level. Using a shovel can eliminate air pockets. Level this area with a piece of 2x4, followed by trowel smoothing. Allow the concrete to harden and then cover it with plastic. This should set for a couple of days with an additional week of open-air curing. 3. Once the concrete has cured, use water to create a mist and smooth out the mortar. Next, press a manhole block measuring 6 inches into the mortar, followed by another piece lying flush against the first. Scrap pieces of 2 x 4 can be used to keep the tops of the blocks in an even pattern. Leaving three equidistant 3/4-inch gaps creates air vents within your fire pit. 4. Continuing to build your own fire pit, you will dry-lay a second layer of 6-inch manhole blocks over the first. Mortar is not used during this step. The blocks should be positioned so that they are flush with one another. Internal edges of this second layer should line up with the bottom layer. A slight lip will begin to form on the outer edge. Planning Your Diet Using Internet Resources - Out The Fat
By Banko Stoianov Most of us are looking for easy ways to loose weight. Well, here today we will talk about how to do just that. It might not be as hard as you might think.
We all have friends who pack on the double patty burgers with two extra large fries each day. After they swallow this, they will go onto eating a whole bag of candy and wash it down with a half gallon of milk. Sound like some of your college buddies? Through out the day, we get thirsty. All living creatures do. What do you turn for most often? Sodas, we all do it. Why? Because they are easy to get and they taste good. Who can turn down a sweet drink after a jog in the sun? Well, you shouldn't be doing that. There is two reasons why. One is because it is wasted calories. You don't get anything back from the soda. You might get some pep from the caffeine, but that is about it. You might get a slight sugar rush, but it won't be anything that last.
The second reason is, because we are slightly hungry. We aren't hungry enough to go get something to eat, but a drink will satisfy us enough to our next meal. Instead of drinking sodas all day long, drink juice. More specifically, juice with the pulp in it. I know what you are thinking.
There is more of a purpose to this than moving your bowels.
We all have had a bit of a problem in the bathroom department and have ran for the juice with the pulp in it.
Juice with the pulp in it will fill you up. Unlike sodas, there is something actually there to curb your hunger. You will drink less because you will get full.
Try it, you will be surprised. Always stick to wheat bread. Don't eat the white stuff. Whole wheat products are known to stabilize blood sugar levels. This mean you won't get hungry as fast. This is an easy way to curb your hunger. Here are some tips you can use when making sandwiches. Avoid cheese. We put way to much cheese on everything these days. I won't be surprised if some day they make a cheese covered soda can.
This is a heart attack waiting to happen. There is no reason to eat this much cheese.
One of the ways you can cut down on the amount of cheese you eat is by shredding the cheese. Use the shredded cheese instead of cheese slices.
You can cover the same amount of area, with less cheese. You can also do this on salads as well. Cut down on the mayo. I would suggest that you cut this completely out.
I know some guys who put so much mayo on their sandwiches, I can't see how they eat them. I can't see how they can taste anything but the mayo.
A good suggestion to do it, sprinkle a little of Italian dressing on the sandwich. Just enough so you can taste it.
This will really cut down on the fat. Also, if you make your own, you can control how much oil is in the dressing. Cut down on bread. If you are going out to eat and the waiter drops a bread basket on the table, push it away. Don't eat the bread.
The more carbs you can get away from the better. Cut out the silly snacks. Don't fill up on potato chips between meals.
Instead grab an apple or some veggie sticks. You will be amazed at how good they are once you give them a chance.
I love green peppers sprinkled with a little salt. I will take these any day over potato chips. Stay away from fatty cuts of meat. Don't go to the store and buy the most fatty cuts of pork you can get.
Take it home and trim the fat off of it if you have to. There are tons of ways you can cook lean meat so that it isn't dry.
That is why most people like the fat in the meat, it adds juice. Also with spices, you can fix the problem of not having the flavor that fat adds. Stay away from too much dairy. No need to get full of ice cream that is full of fat. Instead if you must consume it, go for the low fat versions.
Try to get flavors with a lot of fruit in them or add your own fruit. You won't notice the missing fat if you add some flavor to it.
Avoid frying stuff. Learn how to bake, broil and steam your foods. You will be surprised at how much fat frying adds to the dish.

We all have friends who pack on the double patty burgers with two extra large fries each day. I know some guys who put so much mayo on their sandwiches, I can't see how they eat them. I can't see how they can taste anything but the mayo.
A good suggestion to do it, sprinkle a little of Italian dressing on the sandwich. Just enough so you can taste it.
This will really cut down on the fat. Also, if you make your own, you can control how much oil is in the dressing. Cut down on bread. If you are going out to eat and the waiter drops a bread basket on the table, push it away. Don't eat the bread.
The more carbs you can get away from the better. Cut out the silly snacks. Don't fill up on potato chips between meals.

That is why most people like the fat in the meat, it adds juice. Also with spices, you can fix the problem of not having the flavor that fat adds. Stay away from too much dairy. No need to get full of ice cream that is full of fat. Instead if you must consume it, go for the low fat versions.
Try to get flavors with a lot of fruit in them or add your own fruit. You won't notice the missing fat if you add some flavor to it.
Avoid frying stuff. Learn how to bake, broil and steam your foods. You will be surprised at how much fat frying adds to the dish.

Easy Ways to Fix Scrapbooking Mistakes
By Katie Gee We have all done it. We have created the perfect scrapbooking page and we sit back and look at it with pride in our eyes. You know the feeling of pride one can only feel when they have poured over an hour on one page and we KNOW we did a great job. We read our journaling and then the date jumps out at us we used the year 2004 and this is 2006. Or, we have moved our hand across the page after writing the last word and created a smudge. Do not panic and do not tear up the page, fixing scrapbooking mistakes is an easy thing to do! What I have found is that there is no scrapbooking mistake too big or too small that it can't be fixed without anyone ever knowing it happened. Misspellings and incorrect dates tend to be my number one mistake. If it is simply a date or heading that is incorrect, I take a piece of solid scrapbooking paper, cut it in a unique fashion and glue it over the mistake. Voila, you have a blank slate to write on. If it is in the middle of writing, I take that opportunity to add stickers or other embellishments in the middle of my journaling and write around it. If I smudge writing or stamping, I typically cover it with an embellishment or I smudge other areas of writing and try to give the page an overall shabby look. It can also be frustrating when a picture, die cut or scrapbooking paper tears. Again, embellishments can do a great job. If you cover the tear in scrapbooking paper or the scrapbooking page with a sticker, nobody will ever know that the tear was there. Please note that if you add an embellishment one place you will more than likely have to add scrapbooking embellishments elsewhere or it may look out of place. It is through mistakes that I have been able to use my creativity to come up with an even better page than before. It forces me to think outside the box. So, don't think of them as scrapbooking mistakes, think of them as scrapbooking challenges. Rainy Day Crafts for Kids
By Michael Russell Bad weather days can keep your kids indoors, but television isn't the only answer to inactivity. Simple and fun craft projects that can be done with items you probably have around the house can easily become a fun family activity! Edible Jewelry. This is a very creative and fun way to play with your food! You will need shoe string licorice (not the rope style, as the licorice will be the string) and goodies that have some sort of hole in them. Example would be: Cheerios, pretzels, gummy lifesavers, mini donuts and dried apple rings. String the items along the licorice 'thread' and tie the two ends together. You can make necklaces and bracelets! Edible play dough. If you have young ones who tend to eat their play dough - this is a nice alternative. Mix together one half cup of honey, one half cup of smooth peanut butter and one cup of dried milk powder. Mix until you have the dough consistency you like, adding more powdered milk if it feels sticky. If you like, you can work in a few drops of food coloring at this stage. Then let the kids play with and eat it! This is meant for a single use, don't store this longer than one day. Sponge stamps. For this, all you need is any type of sponges you can find. The more different the textures of sponges, the more fun the designs are. Just cut the sponges into different shapes with scissors. The kids can dip the sponge pieces into paint and create their own works of art. For more creativity, try gluing the sponge pieces onto a 3 inch paint roller. Maracas. For home made maracas, all you need are paper plates, dried beans and tape. Give each child two paper plates. Have them color and decorate the bottom of the plates any way they wish. Fill one plate with about cup of dried beans, place the other plate on top, face down and tape together - making sure you seal all the way around. The hollow area creates the space for the beans to shake around and make noise! Homemade clay. There are lots of recipes out there for homemade clay, this one is very easy, if a little messy! You will need, flour, 12 day old slices white bread (with the crusts removed), cup of white glue, food coloring. Tear the bread into chunks and put in bowl, add the glue and mix really well with your hand until it becomes a unified mass. Turn out onto a floured board and need until the clay is no longer sticky. You may need to add tiny bits of flour as you go. To color the clay, pull off a chunk and add a drop or two of food coloring. Knead well to incorporate the color. Let the kids form whatever designs they like, then air dry the pieces. It will take a day or two depending on how big the pieces are. Paint the dried clay designs if you like. HO Steam Locomotive Drivers and Their Care
By Michael W.P. Ball The drivers on any steam locomotive are an integral part of the engines operating system. The care is essential in maintaining a well cared for HO steam engine. Periodically the hobbyist should disassemble his or her steam engine for good maintenance. The procedure is best described by removing the body of the engine from the frame. It is not necessary to remove the motor. You must however, uncouple the driveline between the motor and the gearbox. Once this is done, remove the plate at the bottom of the frame that holds the drive wheels in place. Carefully remove the drive wheel set from the frame and slide the pistons out of the cylinders. Make a note of the position of the wheels during removal. This will make it easier to reinstall the wheel set. Once the wheel set has been removed, carefully remove the springs from each slot on the frame. Make sure you put them in a safe place. Now take denatured alcohol and a swab and gently clean all of the slots and areas where the wheels may make contact. I do not use solvents because they leave a residue. You have to be careful with solvents because of the possibility of corrosive agents that may damage your locomotive. Turning to the wheel sets, carefully examine the drive rods and journals for wear. Clean the wheels with denatured alcohol including the tires. On the shafts of each wheel, there should be a set of bushings or bearings. Gently clean the drive wheel shafts and bushings/bearings with the denatured alcohol. Now remove the gearbox from the main drive wheel. Clean the main drive gear thoroughly with alcohol. Also, take the gearbox apart and clean out the old grease again using alcohol. Using synthetic Teflon grease, grease the gearbox with a minimum amount of grease. Too much grease will bog the gearbox down. We have found that the synthetic grease is superior to natural greases. Also, add a little grease to the main drive gear. Examine the wheel springs for damage. It is generally a good idea to replace them as they do wear out and they are very inexpensive. Reinstall the wheel set making sure the bushing/bearings are aligned correctly and the little plastic disks are located properly. Once installed take a fine oil and place one drop on each of the bushing/bearings. This will help with the operation of the wheel set. Make sure the piston rods are inserted into the pistons. Place the bottom cover onto the frame and fasten the plate with the original screws. With the gearbox yet to be assembled on the main gear, place the frame on a test track. Gently run the frame and wheels up and down the track checking for any binding. If so, readjust the wheel set until they move freely and recheck on the test track. Once you feel the system is aligned properly reinstall the gearbox. Fasten the gearbox shaft to the Can Motor shaft by the original means unless you have changed the drive mechanism to your liking. Once this is accomplished, place the frame/wheel set on a live test track and operate it. If all goes well reinstall the body and test it again. Essential Shopping List; Snacks to Keep You Slim, Satisfied and Healthy
By Vikki Scovell Cultural eating habits have altered to encourage almost permanent snacking. Our waist-lines are bearing the brunt of the advertising onslaught, and many people are caving in under the temptation of seemingly endless delicious snacking possibilities. We can make a stand and snack sensibly to keep ourselves energized, and of a healthy weight, but first we have to accept the first rule of snacking; our snacks need to be small. We have been led to believe that a packet of crisps that would happily fit in a bucket is an acceptably-sized snack (and almost necessary for TV watching); however a true snack is closer to something of the size that would neatly snuggle into your cupped hand. Over-consumption of the healthiest snacks will still lead to weight gain. The second rule of snacking is: be prepared. If you have things close at hand you will always be in a strong position, avoiding hunger pangs, temptations, or having to buy anything in a garage on a car journey. So this week, here are some snack essentials for your shopping list; clear out the problem foods from your desks, glove boxes and cupboards, and re-stock with better healthier snacks. Stuff for the fridge; Cook up a bowl of brown or wild rice (or some pasta) for the fridge (it will last for 3 days) then it is always there for emergency snacks and meals. Mix with roasted vegetables, freshly chopped raw veg (tomato, cucumber, onion, peppers, fresh herbs) or canned fish, to make many different variations of cold pasta/rice salad. Avoid mayo or dressings, use lemon juice, fresh herbs, or a little soy sauce. A small pot will serve as a filling snack. Try steaming apples and fresh or frozen blueberries or raspberries (near puddings in the freezer section of the supermarket), and then blend to make a delicious fat-free high-vitamin puree to store in the fridge for several days. Add to low-fat natural yoghurt as a little sweet snack or pudding or layer with oats for a scrummy breakfast or more filling snack. Prepare a container of thinly sliced vegetables; raw carrot, peppers, cucumber, celery, cauliflower, lightly steamed green beans, mange tout peas and baby corn. Dip in a little pot of hummus as a snack or light meal, or munch at your leisure on their own. A great way of increasing your daily intake of veggies, vitamins and antioxidants (cancer-fighters). Hard boil some eggs. Handy and filling; peel and squash onto a rice cake, or munch with some veggie sticks. Berries; any berries will do; keep them chilled, keep them handy, keep them away from me because I will eat the lot. Smoothies; pure fruit smoothies are a good snack option, avoid ones with added sugar, honey or yoghurt if you are watching your weight.

Tinned fish; mash red salmon, sardines or tuna onto a piece of wholemeal toast or rice cake for a satisfying snack or light meal, packed with essential fats. Keep a well-stocked fruit bowl; throw a piece of fruit in your bag wherever you go. Bananas are unbeatable, and provide a mood-boosting ingredient to keep you smiling at work. Team a banana with an oatcake to give longer-lasting energy. Stuff for the Kids (and grown-ups too) Bread sticks (better than crisps). Watermelon smiles (I mean slices).
